What is a data collection terminal for?

Mandatory labeling is gaining momentum, so precious metals are next in line, along with tobacco products, perfumes, shoes and other goods. One of the important stages of preparation for work with marking is setting up an electronic document management system and automating the processes of receiving and shipping goods, which is facilitated by data collection terminals (TSD).

TSD Is a portable device equipped with a display, keyboard and barcode scanner, and provides automation of receipt, transfer, shipment, inventory of goods. TSD helps to track the movement of goods by scanning their barcodes, which helps to reduce the number of errors in warehouse and trade processes, and, consequently, to reduce the consumption of time and money.

Today the market offers more and more efficient equipment, in particular, a wide selection is presented in the TSD category. Modern models of data collection terminals are somewhat larger than mobile phones, devices have a large color display (sometimes touchscreen), a keyboard, a scanner module, a camera, and are able to maintain an autonomous mode of operation for many hours. The list of TSD interfaces usually includes all the variety of wireless connection methods (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, 2G, 4G). The accounting system of the device allows the use of the most common and convenient programs: 1C, Parus, SAP ERP, Axapta and others.

The data collection terminal is an indispensable device in activities where it is necessary to promptly process and record data on the movement of goods. In addition, the TSD has all the functions of a barcode scanner, which is convenient to use for remote trade or delivery of goods by courier.

The data collection terminal is a multifunctional device, but often only three basic functions are used:

– Reception

In warehouse or trading activities, upon receipt of goods, there is a need to receive delivery, where a terminal is needed. Receiving goods through the TSD is quite simple: an invoice with a list of goods is sent to the terminal, an employee at the reception checks the goods received, scans the barcodes of the goods. Having noted the entire list of accepted goods, the terminal helps to unload all the data on acceptance into 1C or another accounting system, with the help of which it will then be possible to track the actual arrival of goods. Thanks to the built-in 2D scanner, many TSDs can be used when accepting labeling goods, because according to the rules, it is required to transfer data on all accepted labeling goods to the information system, which can be done with the TSD in a matter of minutes.

– Inventory and accounting

Tracking and monitoring the condition and quantity of goods is one of the important processes in trade and warehouse activities. During the inventory, the responsible employee, scanning the product code number, checks through the TSD, displaying information about the availability, balances and discrepancies of goods in terms of quantity. The search for missing goods and identifying the cause of the shortage / surplus, thanks to the presence of the TSD, is greatly simplified. The terminal helps to generate a checklist (by scanning items, you can enter data on the quantity of goods), which is loaded into 1C or another accounting system, and helps to draw up reports on the receipt and write-off of goods.

– Shipment

The process of shipping goods from a warehouse or retail outlet is also becoming faster and easier. Waybills or UPD (universal transfer document) for shipment are transferred to the terminal, and the employee can, guided by the name, code, article and quantity of goods from the waybill, can collect the batch for shipment by reading the barcode of the goods and placing an order. The TSD will report any discrepancy, and at the end of the work it will help to complete the procedure by generating a shipment document and sending it back to the accounting system, for example, to 1C.

Working with the device presupposes knowledge of the entire procedure for inventory accounting processes. When purchasing a terminal, you first need to install the appropriate software and configure the drivers to enable wireless connection of the device. After that, the device is integrated with 1C (or another accounting system) and the data exchange is checked. Data exchange largely depends on the TSD model: some – terminals exchange information instantly (in real time), sending information automatically by continuous unloading; others – save data and send information only when connected wirelessly to a computer with an accounting system and at the same time with the operator s command.

Barcode recognition is available thanks to the scanner modules built into the TSD. Scanning is carried out after turning on the scanning mode and aiming the reading element at the barcode, which is decrypted and processed with the output of data about the product according to the result of the work.

All TSD operations can be accompanied by both light and sound alerts, because most modern models are equipped with a complete system of sensors aimed at informing the user about the correct functioning of the terminal or malfunctions and errors in the operation of the device.

The introduction of a data collection terminal into the inventory processes significantly increases the speed of work and reduces the workload on staff, which increases the efficiency of work in general. In addition, the TSD allows you to monitor the work of employees of a warehouse or sales area, and contributes to improving the quality of customer service.

Against the background of the introduction of marking, terminals equipped with 2D barcode scanners are currently the more popular TSD models. Among such TSDs, ATOL SMART.DROID devices are available and effective, Urovo i6200, all configurations of which are equipped with 2D barcode scanners of Zebra, Honeywell and Mindeo models, as well as Urovo i6300 and Urovo i6310 touch terminals, the control and configuration of which is especially simple and convenient. Together with this, the manufacturer Urovo has released a device that combines an online checkout and TSD, for even greater comfort and mobility of trade – KKT MKASSA RS9000-F.
